When Lucinda Williams calls someone “my new favorite artist and an amazing guitarist”, it’s a good idea to pay attention. Anne McCue’s latest is a showcase of singing, songwriting, and guitar playing excellence, with scorching six-string solos gracing every tune from the barn-stomp opening track “Don’t Go to Texas (Without Me)”—with vocals reminiscent of Lucinda herself, singing over the riff from “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”—to the extended guitar noodling of “The Old Man’s Talkin’”. McCue does more than rock out, though, as slow-burners like “Ol’ Black Sky” and “God’s Home Number” attest. The title track is a sludgy blues rant that manages to sound warmly familiar and entirely new at the same time. That’s the kind of record this is: little starbursts of surprise punctuating well-worn songs that feel as comfortable as a worn flannel shirt. By the time she hits album-closer “Rock and Roll Outlaw”, McCue is declaring, “I’m on my way!” Given the strength of this record, the listener would be be foolish to disagree. Good call, Lucinda.

Kekuasaan Jenderal Garza (David Zayas) di sebuah negara di Amerika Selatan memang sangat kokoh. Dengan kekuatan militer yang ia miliki, Garza menindas warga negaranya sekaligus menentang kebijakan negara-negara lain yang ada di sekitarnya. Setelah kematian seorang sandera warga negara Amerika di tangan Garza, pemerintah Amerika tak punya pilihan lain selain membuat skenario untuk menggulingkan kekuasaan Garza.

Menurunkan pasukan langsung ke negeri itu jelas tak mungkin dan satu-satunya cara adalah menurunkan pasukan tak resmi untuk melakukan kudeta dan membebaskan rakyat di negeri itu dari penindasan yang sudah berjalan dua puluh tahun lebih itu. Masalahnya, pasukan ini harus benar-benar tangguh karena mereka tak akan mendapat bantuan apa pun dari pihak mana pun.

Harapan kini bergantung pada Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), sang pemimpin tim The Expendables. Bersama Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Tool (Mickey Rourke), Bao Thao (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) dan Toll Road (Randy Couture), Barney harus berhasil membunuh Garza dan menumbangkan rezim yang berkuasa.

Sayangnya misi ini bukanlah misi yang mudah. Selain tak akan mendapat bantuan apa pun dari pihak militer Amerika, ada agen CIA bernama Monroe (Eric Roberts) yang ternyata tak menghendaki runtuhnya kekuasaan Garza.
